This is the first edition of the New testament, translated into the Usan language. Usan is spoken by approximately 1,500 people living on the southern slopes of the Adelbert range in the Madang province, Papua New Guinea. Wanuma is the centre for government and church. The Usan translator has used various English and Tok Pisin versions to make a first draft. This then was checked against the Nestle Greek text Novum Testamentum Graece as source text. Most proper names are used as they appear in the Tok Pisin Bible (Buk Baibel, edition 1989), with some slight adaptations desired by Usan speakers to fit the orthography (and phonemic system) of their language. It is hoped that this first edition will be used in such a way that it will lead to a more accurate revised translation, initiated by the Usan christians.
