1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves him who has begotten * also ¦ — WHalso loves the one begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. 6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. 18 We know that no one who has been born of God continues in sin, but he who is born of God guards † himself ¦ him NA27 SBL WHhimself, and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are from God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
